New Haven's First Homicide Of 2023, 23-Year-Old Man: Police
Sunday, the first day of the New Year, at 3 in the afternoon, gunshots rang out on Grand Avenue, resulting in the fatal shooting, cops say.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Police are investigating New Haven's first homicide of 2023.
At just after 3 p.m., New Haven police got a Shotspotter alert of gunfire on Grand Avenue, between Poplar Street and Blatchley Avenue, police said.
When police got there, they found Dontae Myers, 23, of New Haven, shot, police spokesperson Scott Shumway said. Taken to Yale New Haven Hospital, he died from his injuries.

The police Bureau of Identification responded to the collected ballistic evidence. Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit are leading the investigation.
