No Hate in New Haven

An impressive lineup of speakers gathered in advance of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day to say No to Hate.

On January 26, 2020, in advance of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the New Haven community came together with New Haven faith communities, elected officials, first responders, and law enforcement representatives to proclaim that hate has no place here. Judy Alperin, the Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven's CEO, led a touching, powerful press conference with leaders speaking to several hundred community members at Congregation Beth El-Keser Israel. Words of perseverance, hope, the triumph of good over evil, and of standing up against bigotry and hate were emphasized in the speeches of each one of the community leaders.

The Honorable Mayor Justin Elicker was joined by US Senator Richard Blumenthal; US Representative Rosa DeLauro; US Senate Representative Martin Looney, State Representative Pat Dillon, Dean Rabbi Yosef Lustig of Yeshiva Beis Dovid Shlomo; Pastor Steve Cousin of Bethel AME Church; Board of Alders member Eli Sabin, Adam J. Marchand and Richard Furlow; New Haven Fire Chief John Alston, Steve Ginsburg, the Connecticut state director of ADL; Pastor Kelcey Steeleof Varick AME Church; New Haven Police Chief Otoniel Reyes; Imam Omer Bajwa, a Muslim chaplain at Yale University; and Rabbi Michael Farbman, the chair of the New Haven Board of Rabbis & Cantor and the spiritual leader of Orange's Temple Emanuel of Greater New Haven. Sydney Perry spoke at the New Haven Holocaust Memorial leading up to the press conference at BEKI.

Be inspired by the words in these videos to unite in our fight against hate and anti-Semitism.
