Obituary: Margaret Mary Burns Clancy, 87, of New Haven

A New Haven educator for many years, she worked as an Albertus Magnus College​ administrator and was a member of St. Bernadette's Choir​.

Margaret Mary Burns Clancy passed away on Sunday December 18, 2022. She was the mother of William Joseph Clancy (Nicole) of Wallingford and Kathleen Elizabeth Clancy of East Lyme. She was the grandmother of Ryan, Brendan, and Nolan Deschenes, and Andrew and Arianna Zito. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and extended family. She was predeceased by her daughter Alicia Clancy, her sister Ruth Fritz, her brother Joseph Burns, and her sister in law Irma Burns.

Margaret, known to many of her friends as “MM”, was born in New Haven to Margaret Manion and Joseph E. Burns. She graduated from Choate Laurelton Hall, Albertus Magnus College, and SCSU with a 6th year degree in Education. She was an educator for many years in the New Haven School System. She also worked at Albertus Magnus College as Assistant Director of Administration and Director of Financial Aid. She was a member of St. Bernadette’s Choir, the Catholic Charity League, and the Albertus Magnus Alumni Association.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Bernadette Church of St. Pio Parish on 385 Townsend Avenue, New Haven at 11:00 on Friday December 23. Burial of her urn will follow at All Saints Cemetery in North Haven. The W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main St. Branford is in care of arrangements. Memorial contributions in Margaret’s name may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society @ www.lls.org.
