Obituary: Robert John Schreck, 88, of New Haven
Community service, commitment to charitable giving were important to the lifelong educator, native Fair Havener, and Eucharistic minister.

Robert John Schreck, joyfully entered into the arms of his Savior on November 11, 2022. A native Fair Havener, he was the son of the late Albert Schreck and Catherine Balfe Schreck. Bob graduated from St. Francis Grammar School and St. Mary's High School, received a bachelor’s and master’s degree in teaching at Fairfield University, and his doctorate at UCONN. He had a lifelong career in education. He began his career as a mathematics teacher at Troup School. He was the assistant principal at Sheridan School before returning to Troup as assistant principal and later became principal. He went on to become principal of Lee High School and finished his tenure in New Haven as Director of High Schools. He moved on as the Westbrook superintendent of schools and in his retirement, became principal of Saint Francis School.
He was a daily communicant at Saint Mary and Saint Mark Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister and Adorer. Community service and commitment to charitable giving were extremely important to him.

He is survived by his sons Peter Schreck and wife Denise Levesque; Thomas Schreck; James Schreck; Joseph Schreck and wife Sheila, daughters Mary Glynn and late husband Michael; Maggie Gilhuly and husband Robert; Eileen Schreck and husband Ken Mathews. He is also survived by twenty-one cherished grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, his loving sister-in-law Mary Reynolds and cousin, Sister Ellen Cronan, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by wife Eileen Canning Schreck, son Robert Schreck and son-in-law Michael Glynn.
Friends are invited to go directly to St. Francis Church, 397 Ferry Street, New Haven on Wednesday where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
