Officer Injured After Brawl At New Haven Bar: PD

The officer was assaulted while trying to get a woman to leave the bar, police said.

NEW HAVEN, CT — An officer was injured after police shut down a rowdy event at Rossevelt's Cafe on Whalley Avenue May 5, according to police.

Officers were prepared when several fights broke out shortly before 1 a.m. and police supervisors shut the event down, said Officer David Hartman, police spokesman.

Many patrons moved to the Middletown Cafe and a fight broke out there, prompting police to respond.

Police separated a man and a woman who were trying to fight near the Roosevelt front door. The woman armed with pepper spray ran back into the bar after being ordered to leave the area, Hartman said.

She picked a fight with an officer who sustained a injury. Shodennishya Shaquya Little, 23, was charged with assault on a police officer, disorderly conduct, interfering with police, carrying a dangerous weapon and first-degree criminal trespass.

A fight broke out at the Yale-New Haven Hospital emergency department where some people were treated after leaving Roosevelt's, Hartman said.
