Officer Involved Shooting In New Haven

An officer-involved shooting occurred Tuesday in New Haven.

NEW HAVEN, CT — An officer-involved shooting occurred in New Haven Tuesday night in the Hill neighborhood, according to police.

A wanted suspect was spotted in the area of Greenwich Avenue and First Street at 5:44 p.m. by officers working in the area.

"The suspect attempted to flee on foot and during the encounter, a New Haven Police Officer discharged his firearm striking the armed suspect," said Capt. Anthony Duff, police spokesman. "Medical attention was summoned and the suspect was transported to a hospital."

Police seized a firearm at the scene. The suspect was listed in critical, but stable condition.

State Police will investigate the shooting.
