Old Lyme veteran Edward Shyloski and his fellow Post members are being recognized for his service to country and community in the national Veterans of Foreign Wars #StillServing campaign. The campaign honors veterans who continue to serve after the military.

Upon retiring from 36 years with the Navy, Shyloski, like many veterans, felt compelled to continue serving in his community. He joined Old Lyme VFW Post, which has “Vets in Need” as its motto. It was chartered as a "No bar, no building; just Good Works" Post 30 years ago by a WWII veteran with a mission to help his fellow servicemen. Shyloski and his fellow members have served over 70 veterans and their families in recent years. Providing more than $70k of temporary assistance services ranging from cars, farm tractors, rentals and rent, the Post’s efforts have also kept at least 10 local veterans from becoming homeless. The members also support the Connecticut Veterans Home each year and give thousands of dollars to the West Haven VA Giant Steps Program for special needs.

Humbled to be able to give back, Shyloski says Post members are grateful for the many contributions of the local community that enable them to do the work they do.
