Overnight Shootings In Fair Haven Leave 2 Critically Wounded: PD
A West Haven man, 32, and a New Haven man, 56, were shot in separate incidents near Grand Ave. Both are in critical condition, police said.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Two men shot in two separate overnight shootings in Fair Haven are both in critical condition, police said.
According to New Haven Police Department spokesperson Officer Scott Shumway, just after 8 p.m. Tuesday, police got a 911 call about a person who had been shot on East Pearl Street, between Grand Avenue and Exchange Street. When officers arrived, they found a 32-year-old West Haven man struck by gunfire. He was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital where he is listed in critical but stable condition.
Six hours later, at around 2:20 a.m., police got a Shotspotter alert and multiple 911 calls about gunfire and a person shot on Shelter Street, between Grand Avenue and Clay Street. POlice found that a 56-year-old New Haven man was struck by gunfire. He was taken to the hospital where he is listed in critical condition, Shumway said.

After two fatal shootings this past long holiday weekend in New Haven, one Sunday and one Monday night, Mayor Justin Elicker said that the city is "implementing evidence-based interventions – more police walking and bicycle beats, enhanced youth programming, more street outreach workers, and wrap around services for folks re-entering our community. And recently we announced plans to create a city department – the Office of Violence Prevention," but he noted that national gun safety laws are enacted, ."the flow of guns isn’t going to stop."
In August, Elicker urged the ATF to adopt stronger regulations of ghost guns.

Last week he pushed back on a recent lawsuit filed by the Connecticut Citizens Defense League – a group with opposes many gun safety measures.

Callers may remain anonymous or submit tips anonymously by calling 1-866-888-TIPS(8477), or text “NHPD plus your message” to 274637 (CRIMES).
