Overnight Storm Causes Significant Damage to Carousel, Fells 50 Trees, Shutters Lighthouse Point Park: Mayor

NEW HAVEN, CT — In an alert to the community, Mayor Justin Elicker said that a "significant storm" caused damage to Lighthouse Point Park, forcing its closure.

"Last night’s and the early morning’s storms resulted in significant damage to Lighthouse Point Park. Sadly, there are more than 50 down trees and major damage to the carousel building and other park facilities," he said. "As a result, Lighthouse Point Park will be closed today and for the foreseeable future, as we work to assess the total damage to the park and clean up the site."

Elicker said that Lighthouse Point Park is "one of the gems of the city, and a recreational asset that hundreds of residents use every day."

"While we’ll be working as quickly as possible to clean up the site, given the volume of the damage and number of downed trees, it will take some time for us to clean up and complete the work," he said.

"Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation," he said. "We will keep folks updated as the work progresses and when the park is reopened to the public."
