Overseas Ministries Study Center Annual Art Gala

Join us Saturday, April 14, 2018, 5:00–7:30 PM to meet renowned international artists and view their inspirational works of art!

OMSC's Annual Art Gala on April 14, 2018 will feature Makoto Fujimura, an artist, writer, and speaker recognized worldwide as a cultural shaper. Author of Silence and Beauty: Hidden Faith Born of Suffering and Culture Care: Reconnecting with Beauty for Our Common Life, Fujimura was a Presidential appointee to the National Council on the Arts from 2003-2009 and winner of the American Academy of Religion's "2014 Religion and the Arts" award. Fujimura's work has been exhibited at galleries including Dillon Gallery in New York, Sato Museum in Tokyo, The Contemporary Museum of Tokyo, Tokyo National University of Fine Arts Museum, Bentley Gallery in Arizona, Taikoo Place in Hong Kong and Vienna's Belvedere Museum. He serves as the director of Fuller Theological Seminary's Brehm Center for Worship, Theology, and the Arts.

At the same time we will be featuring our OMSC artist-in-residence 2017-2018, Keng Sen Chong, pastor of Hope Evangelical Free Church (Chinese) and a visual artist who will share his passion of heightening humanity's spirituality through his art. Keng Sen believes all of life is spiritual with implications for all human situations and conditions, and it is his conviction that he — and everyone — is made in God’s image. Therefore, it is axiomatic that this created image should reflect, to various degrees, the creative attributes of the Creator. To him, art-making is both a doxological act - a spiritual act of worship - and a ministering act - the sharing of a life.
