Paraprofessional Had Loaded Gun At New Haven School: Report

Police responded to the school around noon Friday and an arrest was made.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A paraprofessional at the Brennan-Rogers School, Sonnetta Powell, 31, is accused of possessing a loaded gun at school Friday, and she was arrested, according to WTNH News 8.

She brought the gun because she was worried "about how some students were behaving and wanted to protect herself,” school officials said, according to WTNH News 8.

Police were called to the school around noon, according to media reports. She is charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds and breach of peace, NBC CT reports. The gun was legally registered to Powell, according to Fox 61.
