Person Broke Into Animal Shelter, Stole Pitbull Terrier: Police

Just before 4 a.m. Tuesday, a person burglarized the Fournier Street shelter and stole the dog named Misty. A $1,500 reward's been offered.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A person broke into the New Haven Police Department Animal Shelter just before 4 a.m. Tuesday and stole a dog, police said. Now, a $1,500 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest of the person.

It was 3:50 a.m. when an alarm went off at the shelter on Fournier Street. When cops got there, they found the shelter had been broken into a Misty, a 4-year-old female pit-bull terrier, had been stolen. Video surveillance shows a single person breaking into the shelter and stealing Misty, according to police spokesperson Scott Shumway.

The New Haven Police Major Crimes Unit and Bureau of Identification responded to the scene and the investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, Desmond’s Army Animal Law Advocates is offering a $1,500 reward.

Police ask that any witnesses who have not yet spoken with investigators, or have information as to the whereabouts of Misty, contact the New Haven Police Department Investigative Services Division at 203-946-6304. Callers may remain anonymous or submit tips anonymously by calling 1-866-888-TIPS(8477), or text “NHPD plus your message” to 274637 (CRIMES).
