Police Identify Man Found Dead in Quinnipiac River

NEW HAVEN, CT—Police have identified the man whose body was recovered from the Quinnipiac River as Gary Crawford, 59, of New Haven.

Crawford's body was located Tuesday afternoon in the river east of the Grand Avenue bridge. A bridge tender spotted the body in the water, said Officer David Hartman, police spokesman.

"There is still no indication when, from where or how Crawford ended up in the water," he said. "Detectives are treating this as a potential crime, although there is nothing at face value to suggest that."

The body was taken by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy.
