Officers Investigating Suspected Hate Crime Assault On Gay Man: New Haven Police

A Hartford man told New Haven police he was attacked by at least three individuals, who used gay slurs as they kicked him while he was down.

NEW HAVEN, CT - New Haven police said officers are investigating a suspected assault on a Hartford man that occurred Tuesday, the New Haven Register reported. Police said the situation may include possible hate crime elements, as the alleged victim is gay.

The unidentified 27-year old man said he was attacked by at least three individuals on Kensington Street, according to the New Haven Register. Police said the victim was first struck once in the back of the head then once in the jaw, the New Haven Register reported. The victim reported the individuals used gay slurs while attacking him, and that he believed the suspects may have thought he was a sex worker.
