Pregnant Woman Injured By Debris In New Haven Gunfire

A pregnant woman was hit by debris from a shooting, police said.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A pregnant 28-year-old woman sustained minor injuries after being hit by debris from gunfire, according to police.

The woman and her 26-year-old friend from West Haven were injured on Chatham Street around 2 a.m. July 27. One was injured by broken glass and the other from a fragmented bullet casing. Neither was hit by a bullet, said Officer David Hartman, police spokesman.

The women said they were hanging out in a parking lot and saw a group of young men nearby. They believe bullets were fired from a black car with tinted windows nearby.

Two vehicles were struck in the parking lot. The pregnant woman was taken to the hospital and stayed the night for observation due to her pregnancy.
