Roots, a TV on an African American family's history showing set
Roots, a sprawling TV miniseries, is set to be shown for free at St. Luke's Episcopal Church on 3 Saturdays of Black History Month.
The showing of Roots is free and open to the public. The series will conclude March 7 with a debriefing discussion. All sessions are scheduled for St. Luke's Parish Hall at 111 Whalley Avenue in New Haven.
Roots is an American television miniseries based on Alex Haley's 1976 novel Roots: The Saga of an American Family. The series first aired on ABC in January 1977. Roots received 37 Primetime Emmy Award nominations and won nine. It also won a Golden Globe and a Peabody Award.

* March 7, Debrief & discussion 4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. with Cera Smith, a Yale University PhD Candidate majoring in English and African American Studies.
There will be a 10-minute intermission at each screening.

Why Roots today?
In full participation of the Episcopal Church in Connecticut's Season of Racial Healing, Justice, and Reconciliation, we are showing Roots. It is both part of our celebration of Black History Month and an aid in our healing and reconciliation.
In that vein, we will have a debrief and discussion session on Saturday March 7 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30. Leading us in our discussion will be:
Cera Smith, a Yale University PhD Candidate majoring in English and African American Studies. Cera is a Fellow in the Office of Graduate Student Development & Diversity.
