Schools Invite Public Comment On Strategic Operating Plan Development

Folks share comment through Thought Exchange, which collects ideas in response to questions, thoughts, solicits feedback on others' ideas.

NEW HAVEN, CT–New Haven Public Schools is asking for comment from students, families, teachers, administrators, staff, and members of the public as it launches a process to develop its next five-year Strategic Operating Plan, known as SOP.

"The SOP will set our clearly defined priorities, goals, and strategies to support student learning and growth," a news release from the school district reads. The current plan expires June 30.

“To build a successful plan, we must engage the thinking of as many members of the community as possible,” schools Superintendent Dr. Madeline Negrón said.

The SOP process will involve multiple stages and various opportunities for input and updates from all stakeholders, it's noted. To facilitate comment from members of all groups, the district will utilize a platform called Thought Exchange, according to the district.

The Thought Exchange platform will collect ideas in response to an open-ended question or thought and solicit feedback on ideas expressed by others. All ideas are shared confidentially (click here for more information). Once participants have shared their ideas, they are asked to rate the thoughts that others have provided on a scale of one to five stars based on how much they agree with the idea or the importance of the idea. In the final step, participants can view how the thoughts in the exchange have been rated by the group. Click here to learn more about the steps of an exchange.

Unlike a traditional survey, participants are encouraged to keep coming back to share additional thoughts, read and rate what others think, and view direct responses to their thoughts from the exchange leader.
