Service Providers Bring Energy Savings To Connecticut Homeowners

Greater New Haven area homeowners are invited to attend a free information session at the Energize Connecticut Center at 122 Universal Drive North in North Haven at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, to learn how to take advantage of energy efficiency and renewable energy opportunities.

Operation Fuel and several energy efficiency providers are teaming up to demonstrate energy savings opportunities to homeowners. A variety of special programs, grants and incentives are available to homeowners interested in lowering their monthly energy costs. The information session is modeled on several similar events the coalition previously hosted in eastern Connecticut.

Laura and Michael Douglas of Brooklyn, Conn., had solar panels installed by PosiGen, one of the energy coalition partners, and have seen a dramatic drop in their monthly electric expenses. “We are really enjoying the savings,” the couple said. “Last month our electric bill was $12 and before PosiGen, it was close to $400 a month. The combination of solar panels and the energy efficiency upgrades PosiGen provided have made a huge impact, and it’s not even summer yet!”

In addition to PosiGen, several presenters from United Illuminating (UI) a subsidiary of AVANGRID, Inc., will participate in the June 24 event. UI offers opportunities for households to realize long-term savings through energy efficiency and weatherization services. Energy assistance and other programs that support households in need also will be explained.

Operation Fuel is one of the co-hosts of the event. Now in its 40th year, Operation Fuel is a statewide nonprofit program that provides emergency energy assistance year-round to lower-income working families and individuals, the elderly, and disabled individuals who are in financial crisis.
