Shootings, Shots Fired Cases Down In New Haven

The city has seen large drops in homicides, shootings and shots fired in recent years.

NEW HAVEN, CT — Shootings in New Haven decreased by 18 percent from 2017 to 2018 and are down more than 60 percent since 2011, according to new data released by police.

There were 50 shootings in 2018 and 61 in 2017.

The city saw 10 homicides in 2018, which is an uptick from a low of seven in 2017, but still a far cry from 34 in 2011. Two 2018 homicides appear to be self-defense cases, but are still under review by the State Attorney's office.

The high water mark for violent crime in recent years was 2011 with 34 homicides, 133 shootings and 426 confirmed incidents of shots fired.

Shots fired incidents fell to 101 from 134 in 2017. Since 2011 they are down more than 76 percent.
