Stabbing Death Investigated In New Haven: Police

Several 911 calls reported a person who was stabbed an unresponsive near a fire hydrant, according to police.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A man was stabbed to death Saturday afternoon in New Haven, according to police.

Police responded around 1:35 p.m. to multiple 911 calls on the report of a person stabbed and unresponsive near the fire hydrant at the intersection of Lloyd Street and Exchange Street, according to New Haven Police Capt. Rose J. Dell.

Arriving officers found the victim, who was identified as 49-year-old Robert Franklin of New Haven, according to Dell.

Dell said Franklin was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

“The detectives of the Investigative Services Division are following up on leads and conducting interviews to determine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Franklin’s death,” Dell wrote in a news release. “The department is urging anyone who may have information to come forward and speak with investigators.”
