State-Of-The-Art Health Center Opens At The Q House In Dixwell

NEW HAVEN, CT — The ribbon was cut at the newly opened Cornell Scott-Hill Health Center clinical facility at the Dixwell Community House Monday.

Serving nearly 5,000 residents, the new state-of-the-art facility for CS-HHC’s Dixwell Health Center will provide expanded capacity and new healthcare services for New Haveners, accoridng to the office of Mayor Justin Elicker.

The new health center at the Dixwell Community House, 197 Dixwell Ave., was, for 25 years, previously located across the street from its new location.

Cornell Scott Hill Health Center found the first Federal Qualified Community Health Center in Connecticut in 1968 in the Hill neighborhood. It has since expanded to multiple sites across the city and in surrounding towns. The Dixwell Health Center clinical site currently serves nearly several thousand residents, primarily in the Dixwell, Dwight and Newhallville neighborhoods.

The new state-of-the-art facility at the Q House will allow CS-HHC to expand their capacity and healthcare services offered to residents, it's noted in a news release from Elicker. Current services include adult medicine, pediatric, behavioral health and dental services. New specialty services include women’s health, infectious diseases and podiatry, along with plans to offer additional services in the future.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday included a speaking program and guided tours of the facility.

The new Dixwell Community House, known colloquially as the Q House, is an intergenerational community space that is also home to the Stetson Branch of the New Haven Free Public Library, the City of New Haven’s Dixwell/Newhallville Senior Center and the LEAP after school program, along with a variety of other community programs and events.
