Stop & Shop, Connecticut State Police, Shelton Police, People's United Bank Team Up to Create Personal Property Awareness

Local supermarket and partners join law enforcement officials to deliver critical messages on protection from identity theft.

Connecticut State Police Commissioner Dora Schriro is joined by (L-R) Shelton Police Chief Shawn Sequeira and Connecticut State Trooper Tyler Weerden.

The Shelton Stop & Shop and People’s United Bank hosted Connecticut State Police Commissioner Dora Schriro, representatives from the Shelton Police Department and Shelton Mayor Mark Lauretti to show area residents the dangers of leaving their property unattended and how it could lead to identity theft.

Commissioner Schriro said, “I would like to thank Stop & Shop and Peoples United Bank for doing all they do to provide appropriate security to their customers and hosting an event like today’s where we can warn customers here and across the state that they need to be alert and vigilant at all times.”

A bank representative and police officer looked for shoppers who did not safely secure their personal property and then placed a “Keep an Eye on Your Purse” sticker on the “victim’s” personal item. Commissioner Schriro then offered easy-to-follow safety tips on how to best protect their personal property when in any public place.

Shop - NY Metro expressed, “Stop & Shop prides itself on providing our customers with a safe and secure shopping environment. We pride ourselves by making our stores safe both inside and out in the parking lots which are well lit.”

Angela DeLeon, Senior Community Relations Specialist, People’s United Bank added, “Awareness is key and this is a program that alerts people to not leave their personal items in the child safety seat and walk away.”

Shelton Mayor, Mark Lauretti, stated, “Today is symbolic of a quality of life issue and
so many different partners have come to the table and call attention to it which is a real positive for everyone in the community.”

Shelton Police Chief, Shawn Sequeira, mentioned "This program provides a public awareness for all seniors and citizens especially around the holiday time to be aware of their surrounding and not make their personal property easily accessible."
