Syrian National Charged With Stalking, Threatening Wife

His wife filed for divorce after he was arrested on state charges, but that wasn't the end of her nightmare, according to an indictment

NEW HAVEN, CT — A Syrian national who was last residing in New Haven was indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly stalking and threatening his wife.

Alaa Hasan Qalb Allouz, 34, emigrated from Syria to New Haven in July 2016. His wife filed for divorce in April 2017 after he was arrested on state charges for risk of injury, assault, breach of peace and violation of a protective order.

She withdrew her petition for divorce after he threatened her, according to the indictment.

Allouz was taken into federal custody in February 2018 by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcementt on a deportation order. He was sent from a Connecticut state prison to a detention center in Massachusetts.

While there he made multiple threatening calls to his wife and also told others he would harm his wife and her family members, according to the indictment. He also threatened his wife and family members in letters and emails.

Allouz faces a mandatory minimum of one year in prison and up to five years if convicted on the charge of stalking in violation of a protective order.
