NEW HAVEN, CT—With revelers gathered for the holiday, on Dec. 31, 2025, just before 8 p.m., police were called to Chapel and Kensington streets for the report of a shooting.

They found a 35-year-old New Haven woman who'd suffered a non-fatal gunshot wound.

The case was assigned to Detective David DeRubeis of the Major Crimes Unit, working under the direction of Sergeant Brendan Canning.

Investigators determined that there was an exchange of gunfire between the occupants of a vehicle on Chapel Street and a man, later identified as Heshimu Barker, 53, of West Haven, standing on the sidewalk.

Barker was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, illegal discharge of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm, and carrying a pistol without a permit.

As the investigation progressed, detectives made two subsequent arrests.

On Jan. 29, Jatwan Robinson, 20, of New Haven, was charged with illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, posted $50,000 bond, and was released.

Tyreek London, 27, of New Haven, was arrested and charged on Feb. 2 with first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, illegal discharge of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm, and carrying a pistol without a permit. He is being held on a $300,000 bond.
