Victim Identified in Fatal Street Sweeper Accident in New Haven: UPDATE

The driver lost control of the vehicle and he ended up getting trapped underneath it, State Police said.

NEW HAVEN, CT — A 36-year-old Bridgeport man died after the street sweeper he was driving rolled over and he ended up being trapped under the vehicle Thursday afternoon, State Police said.

On Thursday afternoon around 1 p.m., Christopher M. Ruiz, 36, of Memory Lane, was driving a street sweeper on Interstate 91 southbound by the Exit 6 off-ramp, State Police said.

Ruiz lost control of the vehicle and it rolled over and came to a final rest on its right side on Willow Street, State Police said.

Ruiz was ejected from the vehicle and trapped under its right side. He was taken by AMR to Yale-New Haven Hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.

State Police are investigating and asking anyone with information to call Troop I in Bethany at 203.393.4200.
