U.S. Marshals, New Haven Police Search For Murder Suspect

Two children were inside the vehicle when the shooting occurred, police said.

NEW HAVEN, CT — New Haven Police say there is a manhunt currently ongoing for Tramaine Marquese Poole, 41, of New Haven, who is a suspect in the shooting death of a woman late Thursday. Police say the suspect may be connected to another shooting that occurred last month.

On Monday, May 7 at 2:20 PM, Officers responded to the area outside of 161 block of Henry Street to investigate a reported shooting. The caller, a 36-year-old New Haven woman, called police as she was being driven to the hospital. She said she’d been shot, by her husband, on Henry Street, police said. The city’s ShotSpotter® system alerted to the gunfire.

The shooter was said to have been in a 2012 gray Audi. Detectives believe the shooter is Tramaine Marquese Poole , 41, of New Haven (At one time, living at 90 Park Street in New Haven). Detectives believe the victim was specifically targeted by the shooter, police said.

Last evening, May 31, at 10:16 p.m., Police were called to Wilmot Road at Wintergreen Avenue to investigate a reported shooting. Officers arrived and found a 28-year-old woman who’d been fatally shot in her car within the intersection, police said. The victim’s two young children, ages 6 and 11, were in the car with her when she was shot, police said.

The woman’s identity is being withheld to protect the identity of the children and the integrity of the investigation, police said. Detectives believe the victim was targeted by the shooter.

Poole is a black man with a medium complexion and a full (not thin) face. He is about 5’11” tall and weighs about 160 pounds. He has short dark-brown hair, brown eyes and is clean-shaven. He has tattoos on both arms. He may be wearing a disguise including a dreadlock wig, police said.

"Tramaine Marquese Poole is armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on Poole and/or his whereabouts is urged to phone police. There is an active arrest warrant for Poole for the May 7th shooting, charging him with first degree assault, risk of injury, criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit and unlawful discharge of a firearm," New Haven Police said.

The U.S. Marshals are assisting the New Haven Police Department and are asking for the public’s help in locating and arresting Poole. The U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force is offering a cash award of up to $5,000 dollars for information leading to the arrest of Poole.

NEW HAVEN, CT — New Haven Police are investigating a murder of a woman, who police believe was targeted. At 10:16 PM, Police were called to Wilmot Road at Wintergreen Avenue to investigate a reported shooting. Officers arrived and found an adult woman who’d been fatally shot in her car within the intersection, police said.

The woman’s identity is being withheld until positive identification is made and to protect the integrity of the investigation, police said. Detectives believe the victim was targeted by the shooter. Detectives are searching for the suspect who, at this point, remains at large.

Detectives from the NHPD’s Major Crimes Division and Bureau of Identification are conducting the investigation.
