5 Helpful Time Management Tips for High School Students

Time Management Tips for High School Students

There’s a paper due. A math exam tomorrow. Sports practice Friday afternoon. Plus, more homework.

With everything going on in a student’s life, it’s hard to juggle it all, let alone manage your time. We all intend to get everything done, but no matter how many to-do lists we make, it always seems like we missed a handful of things. We put it off for a few days, and end up waiting until the last minute to get assignments completed.

Time Management is one of the hardest skills to master. It takes time, practice, and a lot of consistency. However, it is never too late to start. Here are some effective tips that can actually help.

Designate ONE place for your calendar

Do you have 5 different places where you write down important appointments? Events? Try and consolidate all of those to ONE place. Whether it’s a planner or your iPhone, choose something that’s always with you. This way, you will be less likely to miss any commitments.

Study in Shorter Blocks

Have you ever just stared at a book, for hours, realizing you don’t remember a thing you’ve just read? Studies show that you retain information much more effectively if you study in short blocks rather than longer ones. Try studying for 1 hour a day. If you get distracted or start daydreaming, take a break or go onto the next subject. Always try to be at a good stopping point so you can easily go back to it later.

Choose your study space
Do you get easily distracted or can’t sit still? Pick a quiet place that you know will be free of distractions. Like music? Put on a study playlist. Do you need a different environment every day? Try an alternate between study spaces. For example, study Tuesdays at the library and Wednesdays in your room.

Find a note taking app

There are so many different apps out there that can help you with reminders, taking notes, and even sharing between friends and classmates. Try one that works best for you. One example is Coachme, where it constantly reminds you to do various tasks.

Always ask for help!

It will save you time and energy if you ask for help! That’s what the teacher is there for. The more you ask questions, the better you’ll gain an understanding of what is expected. Need more help?
