NEWINGTON, CT — The Town of Newington will hold its annual Memorial Day Parade on Saturday, May 23, beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Town officials said the event will start with a moment of silent reflection before the parade steps off from the corner of East Robbins Avenue and Main Street.
The parade route will continue along Main Street before turning left onto Garfield Street and concluding at Mill Pond Park, where participants will disperse.
The annual event honors military service members who died while serving the United States and is one of Newington’s longstanding Memorial Day traditions.
The national holiday originated after the Civil War as “Decoration Day” and became a federal holiday in 1971.
