NEWINGTON, CT — Newington firefighters responded Thursday to a reported hazardous materials concern at a residence on Robbins Avenue near Vivian Street, according to the Newington Volunteer Fire Department.
The department said firefighters were on the scene and asked residents and motorists to avoid the area while the response was underway.
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection and a regional hazardous materials team were notified, fire officials said.
Officials did not immediately disclose the nature of the substance or condition that prompted the hazardous materials response.
No information about possible injuries or evacuations was provided in the department's initial announcement.
