The event is part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Connecticut and allows community members to interact with local officers while supporting the organization.

According to an event flyer shared by police, 100% of proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit Special Olympics Connecticut.

"The Newington Police Department would like to invite members of our community to participate in our upcoming Tip-A-Cop event," the department said. "Your attendance and generosity directly support Special Olympics Connecticut."

Police said the event also provides an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between law enforcement and the community.

"We hope you will join us in the partnership between law enforcement and the community we are proud to serve," the department said.
