Around the Campuses - Newington College Students

NEWINGTON, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire.

Assumption College, Worcester MA

• Assumption College has announced that 590 students have been named to the College's prestigious undergraduate Dean's List for the spring 2018 semester. Newington students are Macee Buckley, Class of 2019; and Rachel Elliott, Class of 2020.

University of Scranton, Scranton PA

• Brian C. Lavado of Newington was among nearly 600 master's and doctoral degree recipients at its graduate commencement ceremony on May 26 in the Byron Recreation Complex. Graduates recognized at the ceremony include those who completed their degree requirements in August and December of 2017, as well as January and May of 2018. Lavado earned a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in physical therapy.

University of Vermont, Burlington VT

• Natasha Nixon of Newington graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Engineering during commencement ceremonies on May 20, 2018, at the University of Vermont.
  The university conferred degrees this year on an estimated 3,055 graduates, including 2,443 bachelor's, 387 master's, 112 doctoral and 113 medical degree recipients.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester MA

• Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) began its 150th Commencement celebrations with the graduate students ceremony on Thursday, May 10, awarding nearly 830 master's and doctoral degrees. Claudio Ballestas of Newington was awarded a master of science degree in materials process engineering.
• On Saturday, May 12, on the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) campus quadrangle, over 1,000 bachelor's degrees were awarded during the university's 150th commencement ceremony. Four were awarded to Newington residents: Brian Amato was awarded a bachelor of science degree in biology and biotechnology; Alicia Greenalch was awarded a bachelor of science degree in actuarial mathematics with distinction; Stasha Greenalch was awarded a bachelor of science degree in management engineering; and Riley McManus was awarded a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering with distinction.
