Camp RECreate Receives $1,000 Scholarship Donation
The donation from Jill Price will allow 14 Newington children to attend the Parks and Recreation department's seven-week summer camp.

The Newington Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce that Ms. Jill Price has come forward and generously donated $1,000.00 to the Department. This amazing donation will be used towards scholarships for 14 underprivileged Newington children to attend Camp RECreate, the Department’s spectacular seven-week summer program.

“In speaking with Ms. Price, she explained to me how wonderful it was for her children to receive aid to attend summer camp when they were young. She went on to say that summer camp made a giant difference in their lives. Years later, she’s now in a position to pay it forward and help our Newington children experience the same type of recreational activities and socialization,” said Bill DeMaio, Superintendent of Newington Parks and Recreation. Ms. Price is challenging other families, civic groups, and/or businesses to match her donation towards the scholarship fund in order to service more children and families.
Anyone interested in donating to the Summer Camp Scholarship Fund, should contact Bill DeMaio at the Parks and Recreation office at 860-665-8666. Registration is now being accepted at the Parks and Recreation office and families that wish to be considered to receive a scholarship can make an appointment with the Human Services Department to qualify. Space is limited and registration will be accepted on a first-come first-served basis.

This will enable our Department to underwrite half of the cost of one week of camp for 14 underprivileged children. We will identify families most in need and subsidize the $200.00 per week summer camp fee by $100.00 each. This is going to make 14 children and their parents very, very happy. The magnitude of this donation will be magnificent.
