Campus Notes - Newington College Students

NEWINGTON, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire.

Southern Connecticut State University, New Haven CT

• Southern Connecticut State University baseball coach Tim Shea has announced the signing of Thomas Hughes of Newington to a National Letter of Intent, to begin play with the Owls during the 2019 campaign. Hughes, a 6-foot infielder and pitcher, has collected All-Conference laurels at Goodwin Tech. He also guided his team to consecutive conference titles and academically, is an honor roll student.

Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester MA

• The seniors from the women's basketball team, which features Stasha Greenalch of Newington, was tabbed as the WPI Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, Nov. 19. Led by repeat MVP Ama Biney, who averaged 15 points to go with eight rebounds, four steals and two assists that weekend, the six-member Class of 2018, that also features Madison Beck, Maura Buckley, Brianna Dozier, Brittney Lambert and Greenalch, completed the four-year, eight-game sweep at the Worcester City Tournament. The title is also the program's ninth overall.
