NEWINGTON, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire.

Tunxis Community College, Farmington CT

  • Tunxis Community College held its 47th Commencement on May 30 at Central Connecticut State University. A total of 805 degrees and certificates were conferred to 645 graduates from 60 Connecticut towns as well as Massachusetts and New Jersey, and included noncredit certificates awarded through Continuing Education and Workforce Development. Newington residents receiving degrees and/or certificates were Rulando Antoine, Brandon Bailey, Kayla Clark, Erin Day, Benjamin Dery, Harold Deschenes III, Lorenz Fernandez, Pawel Fortuna, Susan Gammie, Klaudia Jakubowska, Kyle Kalisz, Alexander Muir, Michael Nafis, Jayme O'Mara, Maria Paiva, Kelli Parady, Christina Petillo, Rita Raccuglia, Daisy Rosa, Alina Sans, Marc Santana, Donte Servidone, Dhrumil Shah, Dylan Sprague, Bridly Vazquez-Rivera, Crestina Walker and Mei Yang.
  • The Alpha Iota Alpha Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Tunxis Community College in Farmington announced the names of over 100 students who accepted membership in the honor society. They were formally recognized this spring at an induction ceremony. Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) is recognized by the American Association of Community Colleges as the official honor fraternity of two-year colleges. To achieve eligibility for PTK, a student must complete at least 12 hours of associate degree course work and earn a grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher. Throughout their enrollment, they must maintain high academic standing, generally a 3.0 GPA. About 130,000 students are inducted into Phi Theta Kappa each year. Among the honorees was Kayla Clark of Newington.

  • The University of Rhode Island is pleased to announce the spring 2018 Dean's List. To be included on the Dean's List, full-time students must have completed 12 or more credits for letter grades during a semester and achieved at least a 3.30 quality point average. Part-time students qualify with the accumulation of 12 or more credits for letter grades earning at least a 3.30 quality point average. Students honored from Newington are Shaylynn Anne Frazon, Samuel W. Lostocco, Mariah T. Mendes, Amber Elizabeth Rehberg and Adam O. Seguro.
