NEWINGTON, CT — Here are some recent notable achievements for college students from Newington, as reported by readMedia Newswire.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT

  • A talented cast and crew of Eastern Connecticut State University students recently performed in "Two Gentlemen of Verona," the second Main Stage production of the 2016-17 academic year. The Shakespearean musical included Nicole Rivera of Newington, who was the scenic designer. Rivera majors in Theatre. The play was an adaptation of Shakespeare's early comedy about young people exploring love, friendship and the temptations of city life. It ran from Feb. 23 to March 5 and was the first Eastern production to feature a live band of musicians in the pit of the new Proscenium Theatre.
  • A number of Eastern students commit to student internships as an on-site practical work experience with a company or organization that can provide them with firsthand knowledge of a career field. The internship is usually related to the student's major or is directly related to the student's career interest. They often complement the student's coursework, can incorporate skills and classroom experience into the workplace and assist the student in developing new abilities and skills. Nicole Fretz of Newington is currently doing an internship with Infinex Financial Group. Fretz's major is Finance.

  • Katherine Durant of Newington was named to the Merrimack College Dean's List for fall 2016.
    Each semester, Merrimack College undergraduate students earn the right to be named to the Dean's List by earning a minimum 3.25 GPA based on a 4.0 GPA grading system.
