NEWINGTON, CT — Here are some recent notable accomplishments by local college students, as provided by readMedia Newswire.

Asnuntuck Community College, Enfield CT

• Mallorie DeJesus and Benjamin Rivera, both of Newington, were among the graduates who recently received degrees or certificates from Asnuntuck Community College.

James Madison University, Harrisonburg VA

• James Madison University is pleased to announce Newington resident Austin Zachary Hurwitz has been named to the dean's list for the spring 2018 semester. Students who earn dean's list honors must carry at least 12 graded credit hours and earn a GPA of between 3.5 and 3.899. Hurwitz is majoring in Sport & Rec Management.

Muhlenberg College, Allentown PA

• Muhlenberg College student Matthew Guerrera, Class of 2019, studied in Italy during spring 2018.
  Muhlenberg encourages students of all disciplines to attend one of 100 study abroad programs offered during their undergraduate experience. With programs in Europe, Asia, Oceania, Latin America and Africa, students earn academic credit while engaging in global development.

Tunxis Community College, Farmington CT

• Four Tunxis Community College students were recognized on May 15 as winners of a Civic Engagement Contest, sponsored by the college’s Civic Engagement Institute. Tunxis students who participated in the contest were required to submit an essay describing their leadership and civic engagement accomplishments. Third place, with a $75 cash prize, went to Kelli Parady of Newington, president of the student Veterans’ Club at Tunxis who spent time developing a scholarship for veterans and their family members.
