Rep. Turco’s Campaign Earns Public Financing Grant

(NEWINGTON, CT) --- State Representative Gary Turco announced on Monday that his re-election campaign has received a public financing grant under Connecticut’s Citizens’ Election Program (CEP). In order to receive the CEP grant, Turco’s campaign was required to secure $5 to $250 donations from at least 150 Newington residents, totaling at least $5,100. The campaign exceeded this qualifying threshold in early spring.

“I am humbled by the support many Newington residents have already shown for my re-election campaign, especially during this difficult time. Some have made contributions that helped me qualify for CEP funding, and others have submitted letters of support to local publications,” Turco said. “It has been a privilege to serve as Newington’s State Representative, and I hope to earn the chance to continue to deliver for Newington in a second term.”

Connecticut’s CEP was established in 2005 in order to provide clean elections financing to qualified candidates for statewide offices and the General Assembly. Participation is voluntary. According to the program’s website, one of its primary goals is to keep special interest money out of Connecticut’s elections.

“I am a strong supporter of our state’s Citizens’ Elections Program because it assures voters that their voices are truly at the forefront of Connecticut’s elections,” Turco said. “Our public financing program ensures that my colleagues and I are held accountable to our constituents, not to special interests.”
