Newington Police Honored For Domestic Violence Fight
Hartford-area police attended a special event in Simsbury, including Newington police.
SIMSBURY, CT — Law enforcers from several area towns, including Newington, Thursday morning were honored by a Hartford-based nonprofit that helps those impacted when the scourge of domestic violence hits.
Based in Hartford, Interval House is a nonprofit group founded in 1977 dedicated to ending domestic violence in the state.
"From its inception in the basement of a Hartford church by women who wanted to help those who were suffering in silence, Interval House has long been committed to empowering its clients, providing a nurturing and encouraging environment for victims to heal and acquire the tools to move on," reads the organization's website.

"Interval House offers immediate and compassionate support to about 6,500 victims of domestic violence per year in 24 cities and towns both East and West of the Connecticut River—all at no charge."
Thursday morning at The Riverview events venue in Simsbury, the nonprofit hosted area law enforcers from 24 area towns that are included in the organization's coverage area.

One of the departments receiving a special plaque at Thursday's "Breakfast With Champions" event was the Farmington Police Department, which expressed gratitude and thanks earlier Thursday.
"Farmington PD was honored to be recognized this morning by Interval House for our work with domestic violence victims," wrote the Farmington PD via social media.
"We are proud of our partnership with Interval House and the work done to help support victims of domestic violence."
Farmington police gave credit to all officers who respond to "these very dangerous calls for service."
On Oct. 12, two Bristol police officers were shot and killed in an ambush while responding to a reported domestic incident.
The Avon Police Department was also well represented at today's event.
"Interval House CT helps those who suffer in silence by providing compassionate support, financial aid, and help with navigating the legal system so they can move forward to live a life in safety," wrote the Avon PD via social media.
"Sadly, this year saw an increase of domestic violence with an additional 1,500 more women seeking help. Now more then ever they need your support."
Meanwhile, the City of Hartford's police department was also present, re-affirming its support for the organization.
"HPD was among many other law enforcement agencies recognized today at Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence Breakfast With Champions," wrote the Hartford Police Department.
"We are partnered with Interval House CT to provide services to the victims of domestic violence. We will continue to provide these essential services."
Among the 24 towns covered in the Interval House's area are: Avon, Canton, East Granby, Ellington, Farmington, Glastonbury, Granby, Hartford, Manchester, Newington, Rocky Hill, Simsbury, South Windsor, Tolland, Vernon, West Hartford, Wethersfield and Windsor.
