Kilo of Cocaine Found on DOT Property in Newington

Police are investigating how the large package of narcotics arrived on the grounds of the state agency.

NEWINGTON, CT — A Department of Transportation employee came across more than he bargained for while cleaning the grounds Thursday, discovering a large package of what turned out to be more than a kilogram of cocaine.

The employee had been picking trash on the property at 160 Pascone Place when he located the square-shaped plastic package between the DOT property and Dick's Sporting Goods, police said.

Newington police seized the cocaine and initiated an investigation. A canine unit was brought in to determine if any similar packages were on the property, police said.
