Man Charged In Connection With Gun-Pointing Incident In Newington: PD

Police report that a weapon has yet to be found in the Friday morning incident.

NEWINGTON, CT — Local police said they have charged a New Britain man in connection with an incident in town Friday morning in which a suspect was reportedly pointing a gun at an area police officer.

According to the Newington Police Department, New Britain resident Pedro J. Leon, 33, was charged with second-degree threatening and second-degree breach of peace.

He is slated to appear in New Britain Superior Court April 5.

According to the NPD, Newington officers were called at about 11:35 a.m. Friday, March 22, to respond to a report of a man on a bicycle pointing a handgun at a police officer from another jurisdiction.

Police said the incident was on New Britain Avenue near Stamm Road, where the police officer was operating in an unmarked vehicle.

While police did locate and detain the suspect, firearms detection canine officers with the Connecticut State Police did not locate a firearm.
