Man Made Up Story About Shooting In Newington Park: Police
Newington police March 9 went to the veterans' hospital in town for a report of a gunshot victim being treated there.
NEWINGTON, CT — Local police Monday said reports of a shooting at a Newington park were made up by the person who suffered a gunshot wound.
The Newington Police Department said that on Saturday, March 9, officers were called at about 12:30 a.m. to the Newington VA Medical Center on Willard Avenue for a report of a gunshot victim there.
Police said the victim, initially, claimed he was attacked in Mill Pond Park, 123 Garfield St., Newington, and was shot in the hand.

But, police said, the man then changed his story.
"During the investigation, the male admitted that he made up the story, the gunshot wound was accidentally self-inflicted, and that the incident occurred in New Britain," wrote police Monday morning.

As a result, Newington police said, the New Britain Police were contacted and advised of the incident.
