Newington Gun Store Burglarized Over Holiday Weekend: Police

Several guns and cash were stolen at the store, which is located on the Berlin Turnpike.

NEWINGTON, CT — Local police are investigating a reported burglary at a local gun store over the Memorial Day weekend.

According to the Newington Police Department, officers were called to the Hoffman Gun Center, 2686 Berlin Turnpike, at about 7:40 a.m. on Saturday, May 27.

Police said an employee there had indicated the store had been burglarized.

Officers quickly arrived and secured the area surrounding the store, with early indications pointing to the suspect still being inside the store, according to the NPD.

The Newington Police Department Emergency Response Team was activated and arrived on scene. and they entered the building, determining the suspect had left the scene, police said.

"The ongoing investigation has shown that several guns and currency was stolen during the burglary," wrote police.

"The Newington Police Department would like to thank our regional law enforcement partners and first responders who assisted us during this incident, especially the Newington Volunteer Fire Department who provided resources that were crucial to the overall safety of the incident," wrote the NPD over the weekend.
