Newington High School Receives Computer Donation from Kelser Corporation

The Newington High School IT and Digital Innovation Academy is now home to four HP 8100 computers donated by Kelser Corporation.

Kelser Vice President of Operations Tom Sharp is a member of the advisory board of the Newington High School Academies, which provides specialized tracks supplementing the standard state-mandated curriculum. When it came time for the technology consulting firm to replace the computers—which were used in Kelser’s “install lab” to simulate system environments for clients ranging from the insurance and banking industries, to advanced manufacturing and healthcare—Tom knew just where they should go.

“Newington High School is doing something very special with IT education,” says Sharp who visited the high school to deliver the computers and discuss careers in information technology with the Advanced Placement Computer Science class. “At Kelser, we work with a variety of educational institutions both in a professional and charitable capacity. Education is very important to us as a company, and I’m thrilled that we were able to provide learning opportunities for some very bright students with these machines.”

Newington High School CTE & Computer Science Teacher Christopher Kerr explains, “My Principles of IT class will use the PCs for our ‘Operating Systems’ unit which will allow us to look at elements within the OS like the System Monitor, Task Manager, Control Panel, etc.” The donation also included monitors, keyboards, mice, and other accessories the high school will put to use as well.
