Newington to Host Boys Volleyball Tournament Opener

NEWINGTON, CT — Eleven boys volleyball teams from Hartford and Tolland county high schools have their sights set on capturing a state championship, as pairings for the CIAC tournaments were announced Friday morning.

Six area schools will be competing for the Class L championship, while five are vying for the Class M crown.

Class L

First Round (all matches 5/31, 6 p.m.)

• No. 16 Glastonbury (8-10) at No. 1 Cheshire (18-0)
• No. 14 Hall (9-10) at No. 3 Ridgefield (18-1)
• No. 13 Xavier (9-10) at No. 4 East Hartford (15-1)
• No. 12 Danbury (11-9) at No. 5 Southington (17-2)
• Nol. 10 Conard (9-7) at No. 7 Shelton (14-5)
• No. 9 Trumbull (11-7) at No. 8 Enfield (13-5)

Class M

(all area teams earned a first-round bye)

Quarterfinals (all matches 6/2, 6 p.m.)

• No. 7 South Windsor (11-8) at No. 2 Rockville (15-4)
• No. 6 Farmington (11-8) at No. 3 Oxford (13-7)
• No. 5 Lewis Mills (11-7) at No. 4 Newington (13-7)
