Newington Man Accused of Killing Wife Found Dead in Jail Cell

He was discovered in his cell with a ligature around his neck.

NEWINGTON, CT — A man accused of killing his wife in their Gilbert Road home in September was found dead in his jail cell Monday morning, the Hartford Courant reported.

Michael Torbicki, Jr., 45, was discovered with a ligature around his neck around 5:30 a.m. in his cell at the MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution in Suffield. He was pronounced dead shortly thereafter at an area hospital.

Torbicki has been held in lieu of $2 million bond following his arrest connected to the shooting death of his wife, Patricia, on Sept. 21.

Patricia Torbicki, 46, was found dead in their home around 9 a.m. on Sept. 21. She had been shot in the head and leg, according to an affidavit supporting her husband's arrest.
