Newington Man Charged with Sexual Assault in Southington

A Newington man has been charged with sexual assault for an incident in Southington, police said.

SOUTHINGTON, CT — A Newington Man has been charged with sexual assault for an incident in Southington, police said.

At about 1 p.m. on Aug. 10, Richard Hancock, 44 of Newington, was taken into custody without incident by Bristol Superior Court marshals at Bristol Superior Court.

Hancock was transported to Southington police headquarters and booked for first- and second-degree sexual assault and disorderly conduct. Hancock was held on a $250,000 court set bond and arraigned on Aug. 13, court records show. The bond was knocked down to $75,000, which he posted, according to judicial system records. Hancock is due back before a judge on Sept. 4, records show.

The case dates back to Feb. 7, when a woman claimed that she had been "physically and sexually assaulted" by Hancock at a residence in Southington on Dec. 06.

The woman said she was "injured" and sought treatment at a local hospital, police said. She told police she knew Hancock prior to the incident, according to a report.
