
On Tuesday, July 25, 2017, Gwendolyn B. Gionfriddo, 76, of Berlin and formerly Newington, passed away peacefully at the Midstate Medical Center in Meriden.
Born on November 16, 1940, in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late Albert & Adeline (Schull) Brodie. Gwendolyn completed her bachelor's degree in education at Central Connecticut State College and was an elementary school teacher in the Avon and Newington school systems. She then pursued a career in the marketing department with the Society for Savings Bank, eventually retiring as a property manager for The Gables in Farmington.
Aside from being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Gwendolyn believed in her community and the enrichment of minds. In conjunction with her passion for teaching, she held a position on the board of directors of the Lucy Robbins Welles Library in Newington for many years, where she was involved in numerous capacities. Additionally she was a member of the Schoolhouse Quilters the Connecticut Horticultural Society, and the Newington Gourmet Club.

Left to honor and cherish her memory are her beloved husband of 52 years, Paul G. Gionfriddo, her daughters Tracy A. Gionfriddo of Wethersfield and Stephanie G. Stopper with her husband Mark of Wallingford, her siblings Deborah Brodie of Russell, MA, Marsha Brennan and her husband Daniel of Milford, and Calvin Brodie and his wife Kim of WA, and her grandchildren, Emmett & Max Gionfriddo and Carly, Haley, & Mallory Stopper.
Her life and funeral will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 2, at 10:30 AM from Duksa Family Funeral Homes, 20 Bonair Ave, Newington, with an 11:30 AM Liturgy of Christian Burial at Church of the Holy Spirit. Rites of Committal will be held at the convenience of her family. Relatives and friends are welcome to call for visitation on Tuesday, from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at Newington Memorial.
