
John William Derail, 66, of Newington, beloved husband of Maritza (Garbalosa) Derail, passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2016.
Born on January 23, 1950 in Hartford, he was the son of the late Paul John and Gertrude Ann (Halloran) Derail. John was a graduate of Newington High School Class of 1969. A Veteran of the Vietnam Era, he proudly served his country as a submariner in the United States Navy from 1969 to 1972.
John received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Paier College of Art in Hamden. A talented artist, John expanded his skills to woodworking. In his leisure time he followed politics and was a fan of the New England Patriots.

Besides his wife Maritza, John is survived by his son, Paul William Derail of Newington, and his daughter, Jessica Ambrose and her husband Ryan of Nottingham, MD, his grandson, John Ambrose as well as his sisters, Janice Pontacoloni and her husband Edward of Windsor, and Paula Gaudette and her husband William of Calabash, NC. He also leaves an extended family of brother and sister-in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday morning, September 8, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 1755 Stanley Street, New Britain. Inurnment will take place in St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain at a later date. There are no calling hours.
