
Joseph (Joe) N. Massa, 90, the loving husband of Alfia (Scapellati) Massa, a long-time resident of Newington, a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed into the presence of the Lord on January 24, 2018.
Joseph was born in Hartford on Feb. 14, 1927, son of the late Mario and Louise Massa. Joseph lived in West Hartford until entering the service of the U.S. Army on April 16, 1945 and served in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign during World War II. After his discharge from the military Joe returned home and on August 29, 1952 married Alfia Scapellati of New Britain. They were married 65 years.
For many years Joe and his brother Ben owned and operated M. Massa and Sons, Construction Company located in West Hartford, a company begun by their father, Mario Massa.

Besides his loving wife Alfia, he is survived by his children Vincent and Roxanne Massa of Stamford, Michael and Sarah Massa of Fairfield and Joseph and Suzanne Massa of Newington, 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren along with nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Joseph was predeceased by his brothers Anthony and Benjamin Massa and sister Janette (Harrigan) Massa.
Family and friends may call on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave, Newington, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. His funeral service will begin immediately following the calling hours at 9:30 a.m. at Newington Memorial. Joseph will be lovingly laid to rest with military honors in the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery, Bow Lane, Middletown.
