Newington Obituary: Leroy Newell, 96

Leroy H. Newell, 96, was called to eternal life on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 from the Jefferson House.

Born in Waterbury on June 4, 1921, he was the son of the late Paul & Minnie (Kreidel) Newell. He proudly served our country in the United States Army during WWII. He lived in Newington since 1955 where he and his late wife Doris raised their family and was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church for over 60 years.

His love for music began as a child playing in Waterbury Palace Theater for a children's talent show and then on a radio program. He was a piano tuner by trade and played in the Al Jarvis Orchestra for many years. Roy was a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan, and loved the UConn basketball teams.

He had a sense of humor that was with him always, having a funny story to tell at any time. He and Doris loved to travel and saw just about every National Park in the country.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife Doris (Beers) Newell in 2015. Left to honor to cherish his memory are his children, Fredrick Newell and his wife Kristen of Raleigh, NC, Elizabeth Provost and her husband Donald of Burlington, and Marjorie Armstrong and her husband Charles of Londonderry, NH, three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

His life and funeral will be celebrated on Saturday, February 10, at 10:00 AM, meeting directly at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1655 Main St, Newington, with interment following at Evergreen Cemetery in Watertown. Relatives and friends may call for visitation on Friday, from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave, Newington.
